matcha tea
So, I’ve been trying out this Suntory Oolong tea lately, you know, the one that’s been around since the ’80s. I was curious about it, heard it goes well with greasy food, and I’m a sucker for anything that claims to do that.
First thing I did was take a good look at the label. It’s got some caffeine, around 20mg per 100ml, which is sort of in between green and black tea. No calories, no fat, no carbs – pretty much water with some tea magic in it. The ingredients are simple: water, sugar, oolong tea leaves, and a couple of additives to keep it fresh. Nothing too scary there.
Then came the taste test. I brewed myself a cup and took a sip. It’s got this light, kinda floral taste, almost like jasmine, with a little hint of something fruity, like apricot maybe? It’s not too strong, pretty smooth actually. I tried it with some greasy takeout I had one night, and I gotta say, it did seem to cut through the grease pretty well. I didn’t feel as heavy afterward, which was nice.
I did a bit of digging online, cause that’s what I do. It turns out the whole oolong-making process is a lot of repeating steps, letting the leaves wither and oxidize just the right amount. They say this Japanese Oolong gets its subtle flavor from that whole process.
So, after trying it a few times and doing my little investigation, I think Suntory Oolong is a pretty decent drink. It’s light, refreshing, and seems to do what it says on the tin. I’ll probably keep a bottle or two around, especially when I know I’m gonna be indulging in some heavy food.
This stuff is not bad at all! Not what I expected, but it is a good drink. I had it with pizza last week, and I am pretty sure I felt a bit better after than I would have without it. All in all, I might just keep some around.
