tea tree oil lotion

herbal tea | February 9th, 2025

Okay, so I’ve been wanting to try making my own body lotion for a while now. I kept seeing all these recipes online, and I finally decided to give it a shot, specifically a tea tree oil lotion. My skin gets kinda dry and itchy sometimes, especially in the winter, and I’ve heard tea tree oil is good for that.

Getting Started

First, I gathered all my stuff. I already had some shea butter and coconut oil at home (I use them for cooking sometimes, haha). Then I ordered some tea tree essential oil and beeswax pellets online. The beeswax is supposed to help thicken the lotion, I guess.

Mixing it Up

  • I used like, half a cup of shea butter.
  • Then I added about a quarter cup of coconut oil.
  • And then a couple of tablespoons of the beeswax pellets.
  • I put everything in this glass bowl, I put the glass bowl over a pot of simmering water. You know like, a double boiler thing.
  • Then it’s time to stir,stir,stir.

It took a while for everything to melt and get all smooth. I kept stirring it so it wouldn’t burn or anything. Once it was all liquid, I took it off the heat and let it cool down a bit. It was still pretty warm, though.

Adding the Tea Tree Oil

This is where the tea tree oil comes in.I have to be careful with * stuff is strong.

I added maybe 10-15 drops. I stirred it in really well to make sure it was all mixed up.

Cooling and Setting

I poured the mixture into a clean jar. I just used an old jam jar that I’d washed out. Then I stuck it in the fridge to let it cool down and harden up completely. It took a few hours, I think. I kept checking on it because I was excited to try it out!

The Final Result

It actually turned out pretty good! It’s solid, but it melts really nicely when you rub it on your skin. It smells strongly of tea tree oil, which I like. My skin feels softer, and it’s not as itchy as it used to be. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out, especially for my first try!
