tea set
Alright, let’s talk about this jasmine tea, ya know, the fancy drink city folks like. My old man, he wouldn’t touch this stuff, said it tasted like flowers. But me, I like a warm cup now and then, especially when my bones get achy.
So, what’s the big deal about the water temperature? Well, seems like it matters more than I thought. You can’t just boil the water like you do for potatoes and throw the tea in. Nope, it ain’t that simple.
From what I hear, if you’re drinkin’ that green jasmine tea or the white one, the water gotta be kinda hot, but not too hot. Like, hot enough to warm your hands, but not hot enough to burn ’em off. They say somethin’ about 175 to 180 degrees. Now, I don’t have no fancy thermometer, mind you. I just kinda guess. If it’s steamin’ a good bit, but not boilin’ like crazy, that’s about right.
But if you got that other jasmine tea, the black one or the one with all them herbs, then you can go ahead and boil the water good. That one’s tougher, I guess. Stands up to the heat better.
Now, why all this fuss about the water? Well, it’s all about the taste, they say. If the water’s too hot, it burns the leaves, and the tea tastes bitter, like when you leave the greens on the stove too long. And if the water’s not hot enough, well, the tea just tastes weak, like watered-down juice. You want that good flavor, that flowery smell, gotta get the water just right.
It’s kinda like bakin’ a cake, I reckon. You gotta follow the recipe, or it just don’t turn out right. Too much flour, it’s dry. Not enough sugar, it ain’t sweet. Same with this tea, it seems. Too hot, bitter. Too cold, weak. Gotta find that sweet spot.
This reminds me of that time my niece tried to make sun tea. Left it out in the sun all day, thinkin’ it would be stronger. Ended up tastin’ like somethin’ died in it. See, even with somethin’ simple like tea, you gotta pay attention.
So, 175 to 185 degrees, that’s what they say. Or 80 to 85 degrees if you use those other numbers. I don’t know why they gotta make things so complicated, but that’s city folk for ya. Just remember, hot but not too hot for the green and white, boilin’ for the black and herbal. And if you ain’t sure, just guess. It ain’t the end of the world if it ain’t perfect. It’s just tea, after all.
And don’t go wastin’ good tea leaves neither. My grandpappy always said, ‘Waste not, want not.’ That goes for tea too. Use the right amount of leaves and the right temperature water, and you’ll get a good cup of tea. And that’s all that matters.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna go make myself a cup. All this talk about tea got me thirsty. And I think I’ll use that fancy thermometer my grandson gave me. Just to see if I’ve been doin’ it right all these years.
Jasmine tea is mighty popular. Folks seem to like that special flavor. But remember what I said, the water temperature is key. Get that right, and you’ll have a nice cup of tea. Get it wrong, and well, you might as well be drinkin’ dishwater.
And don’t be forgettin’ to let that tea steep for a bit. Not too long, not too short. Just long enough to get all that flavor out. It’s all a matter of findin’ the right balance, you see. Like life, I suppose.
So there you have it. My two cents on jasmine tea. Hope it helps ya make a good cup. Now, go on and enjoy your tea. And don’t forget to put your feet up and relax. You deserve it.
