Okay, so I’ve been on this huge Trader Joe’s kick lately. Their stuff is just so good, and usually pretty affordable. And I’m a big tea drinker, especially in the afternoons when I need a little pick-me-up but don’t want to be bouncing off the walls from coffee.
I saw this Pomegranate White Tea at Trader Joe’s the other day and thought, “Ooh, that sounds refreshing!” I grabbed a box, but then I got to thinking… how much caffeine is actually in this thing? I don’t want to be up all night.
First, I checked the box. Duh, right? Sometimes they put the caffeine content right on there. Nope. Nothing. Just a lot of flowery language about “delicate white tea” and “sweet-tart pomegranate.” Sounds lovely, but not helpful.
Next, I whipped out my phone and did a quick search. I found some general info about white tea, saying it’s usually lower in caffeine than green or black tea. Okay, that’s good news. But I wanted something specific to this tea.
I found some blog posts and forum discussions, but honestly, it was all kind of vague. People were saying things like “it’s probably pretty low” or “I don’t feel too jittery after drinking it.” Not exactly scientific.
I even searched for nutrition label in Google Images.
Finally, I decided on the only sensible things I could do, I brewed a cup for myself.
So, there you have it. My totally unscientific, based-on-my-own-experience conclusion is that Trader Joe’s Pomegranate White Tea has a moderate amount of caffeine. Enough to give you a little boost, but probably not enough to keep you up all night. Unless you’re super sensitive to caffeine, of course. Then, maybe stick to herbal tea.
