Okay, here is my sharing post about making matcha, hope you guys like it:
So, I got this japanese matcha green tea set the other day. I was so excited ’cause I’d been wanting to try making matcha at home for a while. And, let me tell you, it was quite an experience!
First, I got everything out of the box. There was this cute little ceramic bowl, a bamboo whisk, a bamboo scoop, and, of course, the matcha powder itself. It looked like a pretty intense green, way brighter than any green tea I’d seen before. I read somewhere that it’s supposed to be like an emerald green, and yeah, it definitely was.
Next, I heated some water. I didn’t want it boiling, just hot enough. I remembered reading that using boiling water can make the matcha taste bitter. Then, I poured a bit of the hot water into the bowl to warm it up and dumped it out. I think it is a good way to keep the matcha warm for longer.
After that, I took the bamboo scoop and measured out two scoops of the matcha powder into the bowl. I tried to be careful, but I won’t lie, a little bit spilled. This stuff is super fine, like dust.
Then, I added a little bit of the hot water to the bowl. And now comes the fun part – whisking! I grabbed the bamboo whisk and started whisking like crazy. I tried to make a “W” or “M” shape like I’d seen in some videos online. It took a bit of effort, and my arm started to get a little tired. But after a minute or two, it started to get nice and frothy, a beautiful vibrant green color.
Once it looked like it was mixed well enough, I added the rest of the hot water and gave it a gentle stir. And that was it! My first homemade matcha. I took a sip, and wow, it was different. It was smooth, a little bit earthy, and had this unique flavor that I can’t quite describe. It was definitely an experience. I didn’t add any sugar or anything, just wanted to taste the pure matcha flavor.
It was a fun little ritual, and I can see why people get into this. I’m definitely going to keep practicing and try different ways of making it. Maybe next time I’ll try it with some milk and make a matcha latte. Overall, it was a cool experience, and I’m glad I finally tried it! I also learned some history and health benefits about matcha, that is a really good thing.
