Alright, let’s talk about making unsweetened black tea. Sounds simple, right? But there’s a bit of an art to it if you want a really good cup.
First off, I grabbed my kettle and filled it with some fresh water. While it was heating up, I picked out my tea. I went with some loose-leaf black tea that I got a while back. It’s got a nice, strong flavor that I like.
Then, I scooped about a teaspoon of the tea leaves into my infuser. I usually eyeball it, to be honest. I placed the infuser into my favorite mug. It’s one of those big ones that can hold a lot of tea, perfect for a long day.
Now, here’s where it gets a little tricky. The water needs to be hot, like around 200 degrees Fahrenheit, but not boiling. I waited for my kettle to get there. I poured the hot water over the tea leaves in my mug. You want to make sure all the leaves are covered.
I let it sit there and steep for about three to five minutes. This is where you can play around a bit. If you like it stronger, you can leave it in longer. But be careful, if you steep it for too long, it can get bitter. I’ve done that a few times, and it’s not great. Sometimes, I even set a timer to make sure I don’t forget about it.
Once the time was up, I pulled out the infuser. I could see the tea had turned a nice, deep amber color. I took a sniff, and it smelled amazing – that rich, earthy scent of black tea.
Finally, I took a sip. It was perfect – strong, but not too bitter, with that classic black tea flavor. I didn’t add any sugar or milk. I like it just plain, so I can really taste the tea.
And there you have it – my little routine for making a cup of unsweetened black tea. It’s a simple pleasure, but it’s one of my favorite things to do. I do this almost every day. It is relaxing. Trust me, you should try it!
