What Are Black Tea Lights? Your Easy Guide to Cozy Lighting!

Okay, so I wanted to make some black tea lights. I’ve seen them around and always thought they looked pretty cool, a little bit mysterious, you know? So I figured, why not try making some myself? It seemed like a fun little project.

First, I gathered all the stuff I needed. I already had some beeswax at home, which is what I decided to use for the base. I like beeswax because it burns cleaner, which is a plus. Then I needed some black dye, obviously. I found some dye chips online that were specifically for candle making, so I ordered those. I also grabbed some wicks, wick tabs, and a small pot to melt the wax in.

Once I had everything, I started by melting the beeswax. I just put it in a small pot and set that pot inside a larger one filled with water. I put the whole thing on the stove over low heat, just enough to melt the wax slowly. I kept an eye on it, and when the wax was fully melted, I carefully took it off the heat.

Next came the fun part – adding the dye. I carefully added a few of the black dye chips to the melted wax, stirring constantly until it was all melted. I added more dye chips as needed, until I got the dark, rich black color I wanted. And, yeah, I might have made a bit of a mess, but it was worth it.

While the wax was still hot, I got my tea light cups ready. I just stuck the wicks into the wick tabs and placed them in the bottom of each cup. Then I carefully poured the dyed wax into each cup, making sure the wicks stayed centered. It was a little tricky, but I managed not to spill too much.

After that, it was just a waiting game. I left the tea lights to cool and harden completely. This took a few hours, so I just went about my day and checked on them later. It was pretty cool to see them turn from liquid to solid, slowly. Once they were completely set, I trimmed the wicks down to about a quarter inch.

The Result

And that’s it! My very own homemade black tea lights. They turned out pretty awesome if I do say so myself. They have that dark, mysterious vibe I was going for, and they burn really nicely. I’m definitely going to make more of these in the future. Maybe I’ll even try some different colors. It was a fun and easy project, and now I have some cool new candles to show for it!
