tea ceremony
Alright, let’s talk about this here bergamot tea. You know, the one them fancy folks drink. I ain’t no fancy pants, but I had me a cup or two, so I can tell ya what it’s all about.
First off, this “bergamot” thing, it’s a fruit. Yeah, a fruit! Some say it’s like a mix of a lemon and a lime, but I ain’t so sure. It’s kinda sour, you know, like when you bite into a lemon but not quite as sharp. More…fancy sour, if you get my driftin’.
Now, they don’t just throw the whole fruit in the tea, mind you. They use somethin’ called “essential oil” from the peel. Sounds fancy, right? Well, it just means they squeeze the juice outta the skin and use that. And let me tell ya, that oil, it’s got a smell strong enough to knock a buzzard off a dung heap. It’s kinda flowery, kinda spicy, and real citrussy. Think of it like a lemon got dressed up for church.
So, when you put this bergamot oil in black tea, what do you get? You get Earl Grey tea. Heard of it? Yeah, that’s the stuff. It tastes…well, it tastes different. It’s got that strong black tea taste, but then you get this burst of that lemony-flowery-spicy stuff. It’s kinda bitter, kinda sweet, and a whole lotta somethin’ else. Hard to explain, you know?
Some folks say you gotta drink it straight, no milk or nothin’. They say milk ruins the flavor. But I say, you drink it how you like it. If you want milk, put milk in it. If you want sugar, put sugar in it. Don’t let nobody tell you how to drink your tea. I tried it both ways and to me it don’t make no big difference, but that’s just me.
Now, some folks get this bergamot mixed up with other fruits. There’s this “makrut lime,” somethin’ like that. Looks kinda similar, but it ain’t the same. Bergamot’s got its own special flavor, you can’t mistake it. It’s like tryin’ to compare a corncob to a chicken, both grow on the farm, but taste way different.
You can find this tea pretty much anywhere nowadays. Even those fancy stores. Or you can find it on them interwebs, places like that eBay. Just be careful, you know? Make sure you’re gettin’ the real deal, not some fake stuff. There’s a lot of that goin’ around these days.
So, that’s the long and short of it. Bergamot tea tastes…well, it tastes like bergamot tea. It’s kinda hard to describe, but it’s good. It’s different. And if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ new to try, I say give it a shot. You might just like it. And if you don’t, well, there’s always sweet tea. Can’t go wrong with sweet tea, that’s what I always say.
One more thing: This bergamot thing, it’s more than just a tea flavor. Some folks use the oil for perfume and stuff. Said to make you smell nice. I ain’t tried it myself, though. I reckon I smell just fine the way I am, like honest work and sunshine, you know? But that is a whole another story for another day.
