Okay, so yesterday, I decided to check out this “White Rock High Tea” thing I’d heard about. I’m not usually one for fancy stuff, but my friend Sarah wouldn’t stop raving about it, so I figured, why not?

Getting There

First, I had to actually find the place. Turns out, “White Rock” is, well it is a place, and it’s got a few spots that do high tea. I googled around a bit and picked one that looked kinda cute and had decent reviews – nothing too over-the-top, you know?

The Experience

Walked in, and it was, I guess, “charming”? Lots of floral patterns, little teacups, and doilies everywhere. I felt a bit out of place in my jeans and t-shirt, but whatever. The server, a super polite lady, showed me to my table.

  • The Tea: There is a huge list of teas, it is so crazy!. I’m no tea expert, so I just went with something called “Earl Grey.” It was…tea. Not bad, but nothing to write home about.
  • The Food: Now, this was the main event. They brought out this three-tiered tray thingy.
    • Bottom Tier: Little sandwiches. Some cucumber ones, some with egg salad, I think. Pretty standard.
    • Middle Tier: Scones! These were actually really good. Warm, fluffy, and they came with clotted cream and jam. I could have eaten a whole plate of just those.
    • Top Tier: Tiny little cakes and pastries. Cute, but honestly, a bit too sweet for me. I’m more of a savory person.

I nibbled my way through the tiers, sipping my tea and people-watching. It was definitely an experience. Lots of ladies in fancy hats, some families, even a couple on what looked like a first date (awkward!).

The Verdict

So, was it worth it? I don’t know. The scones were great, the rest was…fine. It’s not really my scene, to be honest. I’d rather grab a burger and fries, but I can see the appeal for some people. If you’re into dainty food and feeling a bit fancy, you might like it. I did like the clotted cream and jam, I love it!

Would I go again? Probably not. But hey, at least I can say I’ve done it. And now I know what clotted cream is. It has been a new discovery, and I have a good time!
