white tea
Okay, so I’ve been wanting to make my own lotion for a while, because I’m kinda picky about scents and I like knowing exactly what’s going in my products, you know? I finally decided to give it a shot today with a white tea and rose combination, and I think it turned out pretty good!
First, I gathered all my stuff. This part was a bit of a scavenger hunt, honestly. I already had some shea butter and coconut oil because, well, I use them for everything. Then I ordered some beeswax pellets online – make sure you get the cosmetic-grade ones, not the ones for candles! I also picked up some vitamin E oil, which is supposed to be good for your skin, and, of course, the essential oils: white tea and rose.
Next, I set up a makeshift double boiler. I don’t have a real one, so I just used a heat-safe bowl over a pot of simmering water. Make sure the water doesn’t touch the bottom of the bowl! Into the bowl, I put:
I let that all melt together, stirring it occasionally with a spatula. It took a little while, maybe 10-15 minutes? You want it to be completely liquid and smooth.
Once it was melted, I carefully took the bowl off the heat and let it cool down for a few minutes. You don’t want it to be super hot when you add the essential oils, because it can mess with the scent. While it was cooling, I added about 1/2 teaspoon of vitamin E oil and stirred it in.
This is where you can get creative! I started with about 15 drops of white tea essential oil and 10 drops of rose essential oil. I stirred it really well and then took a little sniff. I wanted it a bit more rosy, so I added another 5 drops of rose. You really have to just play around with it until you get the scent you like.
Finally, I poured the mixture into a small, clean jar. I actually used an old jam jar that I’d washed really well. Then, the hardest part – waiting! I put it in the fridge to let it solidify. It took a few hours, but it eventually turned into this lovely, creamy lotion.
I’ve been using it for a couple of days now, and I’m pretty happy with it! It’s super moisturizing, and the scent is exactly what I wanted. Plus, it’s kinda cool to say I made my own lotion. I’m already thinking about what scent combination to try next! Maybe lavender and chamomile… we’ll see!
