Okay, so I got this idea to make a white tea sage candle. I’ve always loved those kinds of scents, you know? Super calming and makes the whole house smell amazing. So, I thought, why not try making my own?
First, I gathered all the stuff I needed. Wax, obviously, some wicks, a couple of old pots for melting the wax, and the important stuff – white tea and sage essential oils. I got these online, somewhere… anyway, they smelled really good just from the bottle.
Then came the messy part. I broke up the wax into smaller chunks so it would melt faster. I used this double boiler method, which is basically putting one pot inside another with water in the bottom one. You don’t want the wax to get too hot, or it can burn.
While the wax was melting, I got the candle jars ready. I just used some old jam jars that I had cleaned out. Sticking the wicks to the bottom was a bit tricky. I poured a little bit of melted wax on the bottom of the jar and then stuck the wick’s metal tab into it, and used a chopstick to hold the wick upright.
Once the wax was all melted and clear, I took it off the heat. This is where the magic happens. I added a few drops of the white tea essential oil and then the sage. I didn’t really measure, just kind of went with my nose until it smelled just right. It was a lot of trial and error, I added more white tea oil at first, and it smelled too sweet, so I added more sage to balance it. I think I nailed it after some several tries, it smells amazing!
After mixing the oils in, I carefully poured the wax into the jars, making sure the wicks stayed straight. Then it was just a waiting game. I left them to cool and harden for a few hours. Honestly, I was so impatient, I kept checking on them every ten minutes.
Finally, they were ready! I trimmed the wicks down a bit and lit one up. The whole room filled up with this amazing, relaxing scent. It was way better than any store-bought candle I’ve ever had. Seriously, you guys should try this. It’s so much easier than you think, and you get to control exactly what goes into your candle. Plus, bragging rights, right?
I’m already thinking about my next batch. Maybe lavender and vanilla? Or something citrusy for summer? The possibilities are endless!
